The discussion on this substantive issues addresses the progress and challenges in the region relating to the modernization of national statistical legislation and advancement towards strengthening of national statistical systems. In addition to the adoption by the Conference of the Generic Law on Official Statistics for Latin America in November 2019, several countries have taken action to provide a more adequate legal framework for the production of official statistics. These experiences are a useful reference for the discussion of various issues, such as the organization of national statistical systems, access to administrative records and other third-party data sources, statistical confidentiality and quality assurance, among others.
