Background
The Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC is a subsidiary body of the Commission established pursuant to Economic and Social Council resolution 2000/7, in which the Conference was entrusted with the following mandates, among others: to promote the development and improvement of national statistics and work to ensure that they are comparable internationally, bearing in mind the recommendations of the United Nations Statistical Commission, the specialized agencies and other relevant organizations; to promote international, regional and bilateral cooperation among national offices and international and regional agencies; and to draw up a biennial programme of regional and international cooperation activities which, subject to the availability of resources, will meet the needs of the countries of the region.
The provisional agenda of the ninth meeting of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC includes the following items:
- Review of the activities of the Conference on the monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals
- Progress in the implementation of the biennial programme of regional and international cooperation activities, 2016-2017,
- Adoption of the biennial programme of regional and international activities, 2018-2019.
There will also be sessions on progress in the use of administrative records and other data sources for producing statistics, and on the integration of statistical and geospatial information.
Chair
In accordance with resolution 2000/7 of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, Mexico, in its capacity as Chair of the Executive Committee, will preside over the ninth meeting of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC.
